Avery
county North Carolina is a great place to call home.
With two of the areas top ski resorts the counties tourism
industry is thriving. Avery county is also home to the
highest town east of the Mississippi (Beech Mountain
elevation 3,620 feet) and the highest peek in the Blue Ridge
Mountain (Grandfather Mountain elevation 5,964
feet.
The town of Banner Elk is located at the heart of Avery
county. With the popular ski resort Sugar Mountain the
winter months are busy for the quaint mountain town. Banner
Elk offers fine restaurants and shopping...check out The
Great Train Robbery for a shopping emporium complete with
it's own upscale restaurant. There is also a small private
college, Lees McRae, located in Banner Elk.
As the area continues to grow so do the residential
communities. Many upscale communities are located in Avery
county including Linville Ridge, Elk River, and The Glens of
Grandfather - just to name a few. There are also more
moderate priced options as in Linville Land Harbor. If
convenient seasonal living is what you're looking for there
